On February 12th, Ms. Lee was the subject of the League of Professional Theatre Women’s Oral History at the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Robert Viagas conducted the interview.

Baayork Lee has performed in over a dozen Broadway shows. For the original production of A Chorus Line, she created the role of Connie, while serving as Assistant Choreographer to Michael Bennett. A founder of NAAP (National Asian Artists Project,) in 2017 she won the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award. She has directed and choreographed multiple national and international companies.
On working with Michael Bennet:
“Michael was ahead of his time. He said, ‘I want to do a show about dancers.’ We didn’t ask him, ‘Why?’ We just did it….He told us we were creating history. Here I am, forty-three years later saying, ‘Oh yes, Michael.'”
